On Saturday 12th to Monday 14th January, Muritai is hosting the
2013
Seaview Sails and Rigging
Starling Class
North Island Championships
Two races completed on day 1 before lunch but high winds forced abandonment of racing for the remainder of the day.
Four races completed on day 2. Races 3 to 5 were run in moderate to strong winds, and after the lunch breack the wind had moderated to about 15 knots. Ten minutes before the start of race 6 - around 3 pm - the wind strengthened again and the race was shortened due to the conditions and high attrition rate. Conditions have been testing of sailors and gear - especially masts! Three races to go on day three.
All nine scheduled races now complete (1:00pm Monday). North Island Starling Class Champion for 2013 is Arkady Edmunds of Glendowie Club. CONGRATULATIONS Arkady!!!
Winners: 1st - Arkady Edmunds, Glendowie (centre), 2nd - Alex Wotton Kohimarama (second from left), 3rd Liam Closey, Murrays Bay (second from right), with Vicki Trudgen, MYC organising committee Chair, and Dave Molen of Seaview Sails and Rigging. (Click photo for bigger version)
Entries for the Open Fleet are looking good so this promises to be a hot competition in the build-up to the Nationals.
