The Coming of the Kubota: Saga of search and reward in the pursuit of raw power! By the legendary Viking Warrior and MYC Boatmaster, Lloyd Rance
When I became involved with the club around 1999 the only way of launching our 2 large rescue boats was by using people power – this did work to and certain extent but one did need a loud voice and persuasive powers to encourage members to rally around and push the trailers back into the sea. This worked at times but looking at some of the helpers I did wonder if they would be able to sail and even be around later that day! Then the hard part was at the end of day when the boats had to be man handled onto the horrible trailers and back up the beach. The call for help became a lot louder and the helpers seem to become more and scarcer!! Madness I thought!
Help came later with the advent of club member’s 4WD drive vehicles – this did make life easier, but on more than one occasion I did see the back end of these vehicles nice and wet from seas water. I use my 4WD often, but one WOF check mentioned the dreaded RUST word, and so enough! We had to have something else.
