The Hobbit

MYC on the Red Carpet

Bruce

Working with Peter Jackson's studios and Warner Bros to refit the Embassy Theatre with the state of the art cinematic and sound gear required for the Hobbit premier, saw Wellington City Council Project Manager & MYC Paper Tiger sailor Bruce Moorman and wife Gillian walk the red carpet on Wednesday. Bruce was given the difficult project at short notice and brought it in on time. Well done Bruce. He won't reveal how many autographs he signed but sure looks like he enjoyed the experience. Scrubs up quite well out of a wetsuit too!

New Bar Installed

Chris Trudgen Triumph!

Trudgens strike again at MYC with a fantastic new bar-top and cabinet hand-crafted by Chris.

This brings the bar area refurbishment forward with a bang, complementing the new sliding door drinks fridge.

Judy and Chris are in heaven!

Huge thanks from the whole membership Chris for this labour of love.

Website Refreshed

Regular users of this web site will have noticed is has changed a bit. The menus have been reconfigured and the site is now setup to be more flexible and easier to maintain.

Features to note:

  • The home page has a Quick Links menu on the left. This may change to keep it relevant.
  • The main menu is heavily loaded under the Sailing item. Hover over items to see the sub-menus - explore!
  • Complete results for the 2011-12 season are available under Sailing. Apologies to members for the lack of regular results posting last season - we are still not up to date this year. We will try to have this sorted by next weekend (24/11/12) and be up to date from then on.
  • Most pages under the sailing item have a Sailing submenu on the left hand side. This gives quick access to further submenus.
  • For example, try the Weather or Training items under Sailing.
  • We now have a Calendar system. This has its own full page and upcoming events are displayed in a list on the home page. If you click on these items or on dates on the small monthly calendar display (see right column), any additional available details of the events will be displayed. On the main calendar page, you can display just the items of interest to you by selecting a colour coded category at the bottom.
  • The Login menu is used by registered club members so they can edit and add content to the site. As we add features to the site we may use logins for more members. If you would like to be able to contribute content to the site, register under the login menu and email the Secretary.
  • As always, we would like to have more content, and some areas are yet to be completed. Keep checking for updates.

Tractors!

The Coming of the Kubota:
Saga of search and reward in the pursuit of raw power!

By the legendary Viking Warrior and MYC Boatmaster, Lloyd Rance

When I became involved with the club around 1999 the only way of launching our 2 large rescue boats was by using people power – this did work to and certain extent but one did need a loud voice and persuasive powers to encourage members to rally around and push the trailers back into the sea. This worked at times but looking at some of the helpers I did wonder if they would be able to sail and even be around later that day! Then the hard part was at the end of day when the boats had to be man handled onto the horrible trailers and back up the beach. The call for help became a lot louder and the helpers seem to become more and scarcer!! Madness I thought!

Help came later with the advent of club member’s 4WD drive vehicles – this did make life easier, but on more than one occasion I did see the back end of these vehicles nice and wet from seas water. I use my 4WD often, but one WOF check mentioned the dreaded RUST word, and so enough! We had to have something else.
